Between "Horror Rock" and a "Hard" Place!

Get it?

For the last 30 years, horror films and rock and roll ( and mostly Heavy Metal) have kinda gone hand in hand. I suppose its the whole Devil Worshipping and wearing all black thing...
That connection has inspired countless hack film makers to cash in and make slasher films with a "Heavy Metal" twist. Titles such as "Hard Rock Zombies" and "Rocktober Blood" SOUND good, but the execution makes me tired and kinda cranky after about 10 minutes. Although, big blonde haired rock gods fighting demon puppets is a very special thing, I must say I dont think I could handle more than one or two of these films in a year. So, being the "cinemasochist" I am, I decided I'm gonna watch 6....Yes, 6 of them!
However, I don't want to stick to the "Heavy Metal" formula. As I fished through Cinefile Video (shameless plug),I found that there are a plethora of other music-genre-80's-slasher cash-ins.

I will not be doing a Podcast with Michael on this endeavour. I would rather not subject my friend to such agony. So, every week expect a new review.

This week I am starting with "Rockula"

Wish me luck!
Sean

  2. A couple nights ago our regular Bad Movie Monday watched Shock 'Em Dead, featuring Traci Lords in the story of a young man making a deal with Satan to become a hair metal god. I'm sure you're getting to it, as it's the movie from which you get the conjoined twin guitar screenshot up there. But if it's not on your list, it should be. It's completely terrible/awesome. Trumped by Hard Rock Zombies and Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare, but about on par with Trick or Treat, say.

Love the idea of a bad movie podcast, by the way. Looking forward to seeing this develop.
